Mar, 31 2010 | MTI Announces a Third Round of the Maine Technology Asset Fund

Gardiner, ME – March 17, 2010. The Maine Technology Institute (MTI) has released a new request for applications (RFA) for a third round of awards from the Maine Technology Asset Fund (MTAF). Universities and colleges, nonprofit organizations and for-profit businesses are invited to apply. The Fund was financed by $50 million of the research and economic development bond that Maine voters approved in November 2007 and that MTI manages.

In 2008 and 2009, the MTI Board awarded approximately $46 million to fund 26 projects in two competitive application rounds. This third round will award approximately $4 million in unused funds from the second round as well as position MTI to award an additional $3 million that may become available as a result of a bond referendum in June.

Awards must be used for capital and infrastructure expenditures, such as equipment and facilities renovation, for research, development and commercialization activities within Maine’s seven technology sectors. The proposed project must lead to the generation of high quality jobs in Maine. The award criteria also encourage collaboration among organizations to work together to move new technologies of particular importance to Maine to the market.

A full version of the press release is available at: http://www.mainetechnology.org/

The required notice of intent to apply is due to be submitted electronically to MTI by May 4, 2010. The deadline to submit paper applications to MTI for this third round of awards is June 1, 2010.

MTI will conduct workshops and webinars for interested applicants covering the application process, the review criteria and process, award amounts and types, and the timeline. Anyone interested in direct notification of the workshops and webinars can sign up for schedule information at techfund@mainetechnology.org.
