The SEGF portfolio company, Harbor Tech, won an Award for Composites Excellence (ACE) at the of American Composites Manufacturers Association in Las Vegas. The ACE award for Infinite Possibilities is presented to the entry that demonstrates the potential to significantly increase the use of composites in existing markets, developing markets, or generate the greatest impact to open new markets for composites manufacturers and material suppliers.
Harbor Tech won the award for its composite beam technology that it currently being used for highway bridge beams. The company is also looking to utilize the beam technology in pier construction, and other markets such as roof and building construction.

Harbor Tech’s composite products have seen healthy demand from the construction industry. The growth in business has meant that the company has hired 12 new Composite Technicians since November 2009. Harbor Tech is currently advertising for four additional employees to work as Composite Technicians in production on the shop floor producing bridge beams and pilings. The new hires will bring Harbor Tech’s total employee count up to 32.
